About Me

Greetings! I am a Masters candidate in the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University, USA. I am a part of File Systems and Storage Lab (FSL) and currently involved in research projects in the domain of Storage Systems under the guidance of Prof. Erez Zadok.

I interned at Nutanix in this summer, where I worked on Acropolis Dynamic Scheduler (ADS) to leverage storage I/O traffic to drive Virtual Machine (VM) placement decisions. Prior to masters, I invested considerable time solving some of India’s most challenging healthcare problems at Practo, Asia's largest health-tech startup. As a software engineer, I was working on building India’s first online consultation marketplace, Practo Consult.

Experience

Nutanix

Member of Technical Staff Intern

  • Built a network aware cost model for Acropolis Dynamic Scheduler (ADS). The model minimizes storage network traffic and the amount of data transferred over the network when VMs are migrated in a cluster.
  • Analyzed storage I/O performance of VMs on hyper-converged and compute only nodes under different workloads using fio benchmark utility.

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Practo Technologies

Senior Software Engineer

  • Developed communication platform for patients and doctors that serves 1.5 million Monthly Active Users (MAU).
  • Built server side architecture to integrate Google Firebase realtime database with Practo Consult to provide seamless chat experiences.
  • Developed audio call consultation for doctor-patient communication.

Practo Technologies

Software Engineer

  • Revamped and implemented scalable search architecture for Practo Consult using Elasticsearch, decreasing search response time by 80% and improving search relevance.
  • Backend implementation of health campaigns like AskPracto twitter bot, World Health Day, Women’s Day and World Cancer Day serving 7k average Requests Per Minute (RPM).
  • Implemented algorithm to assign health queries to doctors for matching demand supply gaps in online consultation marketplace.
  • SEO improvements for Practo Consult (Sitemap, RSS feed).

Projects

SBUnix | x86_64 Operating system

September 2017 - December 2017

Stony Brook, NY

  • Designed and developed a x86-64 preemptive multitasking operating system with a support for virtual memory, ring-3 user processes, file systems, terminals, interrupt handlers, syscalls, auto growing stack, dynamic memory allocation, SEGV handling, COW fork and context switching.
  • Implemented a shell that supports executing binaries interactively, changing current directory, environment variables, scripts and background processes.

Min Containment Hash | Sequence analysis

October 2017 - December 2017

Stony Brook, NY

  • Implemented MinHash and Containment MinHash algorithms in C++ to approximate overlap of two long reads and map long reads to a reference genome as a part Genome Assembly.

Passistant | Health assistant chat bot

January 2017

Bangalore, India

  • Developed a health assistant chat bot as a part of Practo health app, which understands the intent of the conversation and replies back appropriately. Based on the intent of the health query asked by the user, the bot replies with appropriate health articles, health questions and answers and doctors of appropriate speciality in the nearby locality.
  • The bot was developed as a part of hackathon (Practo Sandbox 5) using api.ai natural language understanding platform, flask and android.
